Artist’s Bio
Richard O’Sullivan is an artist in new media. He graduated from the M.F.A. program in Film Production/ Direction at U.C.L.A Film School in Los Angeles (University of California at L.A.), and from the University of Warwick. His videos explore the meanings of place, and have focused on the contradictions of the Californian landscape. Other works have explored visual perception and video technology. The artist has also produced documentaries, which follow personal narratives. Work in this area includes the feature-length Cradle, the production of which was undertaken with the mentorship of Marina Goldovskaya. He currently teaches Experimental Media and Media Production at Aberystwyth University, UK.

Festival Screenings
Short videos by the artist have been programmed at the New York Video Festival in Lincoln Center (curated by Film Society of Lincoln Center; 2007), the Media Forum at the Moscow Film Festival (2008), the Director’s Lounge Festival of New Media Art (Berlin, 2009 and 2010), L.A. Digital Art Expo (2008), Electro-Fringe (Newcastle, Australia, 2008), Lucca Film Festival (2007), Dresden Film Festival (2008), and Optica Video Art Festival (Madrid, 2008) among others.

Touring Programs
Participation in touring programs include Brigade des Images’ Les Illusions Necessaires (‘The Necessary Illusions’: galleries in Paris, Moscow, Tbilisi, and Strasburg) and  Les Instants Video’s festival selections (Marseille, Buenos Aires, Ramallah, Damascus). Cologne Off/Online Film festival continues to tour (Maracaibo, Cologne, 2008-9).

Gallery Exhibition
Gallery exhibitions include Devenir-Ecran (Becoming-Screen, 2008) at Espace Lucie Aubrac, Le Vigan, France; Wide Open! at the Krannert Art Gallery, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (curated by Pixelpops, 2008); and Contemporary Flanerie: Reconfiguring Cities at Oakland University Art Gallery (Michigan, 2009).

Conferences
In 2010, the video Fragments of the Los Angeles River was presented as part of the I.S.E.A. (International Symposium of Electronic Art) juried exhibition, curated by Kathy Rae Huffman.  Other conference screenings/installations include Body-Art-Disease at the Sci-Art Centre of the University of California at Los Angeles (2008), and Artech: Conference on Digital Art, Porto, Portugal (2008). 

Script Development  
Richard has assessed professional screenplays since 2001, and has produced commentary/ editorial advice for writers, producers, and arts bodies.  Clients have included the Arts Council of Wales, Sgrin, the NIFC, and Euroscript.
